4th year in a row & an excellent way to kick off the Birthday Celebrations!

The 15th annual 3 Point Challenge Event was another terrific event to kick start summer & my return to training week! The event always falls on the first weekend of summer & subsequently very close or often o my Birthday (2/12) & so its never one to miss! I love a local race, friends & family line the course, people can visualise the race when you tell them about it and i get a Sleep in on race morning!!

The weather was perfect on this day, warm & sunny, offhsore winds only picking up after lunch & moderate swell!

The event kicks off mid morning from out the front of North Curl Curl Surf Club. Starting on the beach, everyone sprints in and makes there way around the first 400m swim, up a steep ramp of soft sand form the beach to the car park, through transition to put your runners on & hit the coastal trails 3km south towards the famously beautiful Freshwater Beach!
Its a tough run, along soft sand, sand dunes, grass, undulating uneven dirt trials before hitting the coastal headland ramp along the cliff race, with spectacular views out to the water, before you realise you up & down some stairs and making your way past Freshwater rock pool to the beach for the second swim.

Freshy is a stunning crystal clear beach on a nice day, and we were treated to just that, diving into the ocean in the Northern corner and swimming another 400m before making the return run 3km along the trails with plenty more soft sand running back to North Curl Curl Beach!

One final tough 400m swim at North Curly where the conditions and tide had started to change, as the course now turned us into shore right on a rip pushing out to sea which made for a tricky finish to the race!

A pleasure to take my 4th 3 Point Challenge Birthday Title! Always a wonderfully run event, with passionate people supporting an excellent cause- Raising money for Brain Cancer & the Children’s Starlight Foundation, a cause very close to my heart!

A fun way to end my first week back training for 2019, feeling very unfit that sure hurt but was a blast racing good friends and on local turf all the same!
